Pratiques responsables
Programme Tag and Release:
Marquage du crabe pour permettre au Marine Institute of Ireland de tracer la migration du crabe et de surveiller la santé du stock.
Saisons:
Atlanfish only purchase crab at their prime, not when the crab is weak, empty, molting or spawning. This limits the catching season thereby improving the conservation of Brown Crab stocks.
Responsible Fishing:
Fishing practices are in place regarding the size of Brown Crab landed.
Carapace Size Limit: Minimum crab carapace size established – to eliminate juveniles being landed. Undersized crab are returned live to the sea.
Pêche en bateau à la journée:
We source the majority of our crab from day boats that land to the many local piers around Inishowen and Malin Head. All our crab is taken to the factory within hours of landing for immediate processing.
Réduire son impact environnemental
Atlanfish is working to improve its environmental performance by being a proud verified member of Bord Bia's Origin Green programme.
The company respects the environment it works in, supports sustainable development and is committed to environmentally sound business practices.
Origin Green enables Atlanfish to develop a comprehensive sustainability plan which helps us to reduce our environmental impact in the everyday running of our business.
Vers une industrie de la pêche plus durable
Atlanfish's five-year sustainability plan encompasses several targets for continuous improvement. These include raw material supply, manufacturing and social sustainability.
Since becoming a member in 2016, Atlanfish have reduced their crab raw material waste for disposal by 9%; reduced the amount of mains water used by 25% and aim to source 50% of our raw materials from Sustainable Certified Suppliers by 2022.
By Atlanfish maintaining Origin Green membership status the company aims to reduce its environmental impact by reducing natural resource consumption and reducing the associated emissions. The reduction in wastage of raw materials also reduces the strain on locally over-fished waters and improves the sustainability of the industry
